Ted's Curriculum Vitae (600KB PDF)

The original company, Gatton Sawmilling Co., was founded in 1950 by Mr. Edgar D. Stubbersfield in partnership with others. Edgar was a builder but had become so dissatisfied with the quality of the timber available for house construction that he started his own sawmill.

Our business was founded with a commitment to quality. This policy continues to this day and is evidenced by our products being formally recognised as being of exceptional quality.

We traded from the same premises in Gatton since our inception, adding to our initial sawmilling activities a planing mill as well as a treatment plant, cartage division, logging operation and private forests. Gatton, where the business is situated, is a small university town (6,000 people) in South East Queensland about 1 hours' drive west of the State capital, Brisbane. It is also on the main transport routes to southern states.

In January 1997 the business was split into separate trading entities. This allowed Ted Stubbersfield (Edgar's son) to concentrate on weather exposed timber structures for both domestic and export markets. Early in 2000 Gatton Sawmilling Co. changed its name to Outdoor Structures Australia Pty. Ltd.

In 2012, the time came to close Outdoor Structures and for Ted to go into semi-retirement. Ted made an arrangement with Chris Blackledge who had been in charge of production to lease the premises, purchase the equipment and continue manufacturing our products under license.

He started a new company called Infrastrucxion Pty Ltd as the vehicle to do this. Ted has been engaged as a consultant to assist Chris in the transition.

Our aim is to constantly improve and add to our already extensive range of products.

An act of faith

"We started with $24,000, a planer on lease, about $90,000 in stock and some land leased from the family.

We have since changed the company name, rebuilt the treatment plant to modern environmental standards, added a kiln, new planer, out-feed and storage shed."

The Australian Technology Showcase

Australian Technology Showcase promoting leading-edge, Australian innovative technologies The Australian Technology Showcase (ATS) is designed to promote global, leading-edge, Australian innovative technologies. The ATS aims to increase exports and attract foreign and local venture capital.

The Australian and Queensland Governments have been keen supporters of the ATS since its inception in April 1997. The national focus of the ATS demonstrates the Australian and State Goveernments' commitment to the promotion of Australian science, engineering and technology international, and also serves to increase awareness of Australia's capacity in leading-edge skills and technologies.

A panel of independent experts in each state or territory rigorously assesses all applicant technologies to ensure they are clearly innovative and leading-edge. Membership to the showcase is reliant upon the technology meeting certain criteria for eligibility. The technology must be:

  • Clearly innovative and represent a signaificant step forward in the technology itself or its utilisation
  • Scientifically credible based on secure principles and understanding
  • Of significant local content in terms of intellectual property or embodied skills
  • Demonstrably marketable with an identified existing or potential market advantage and a substantial identified market
  • Commercially attractive and likely to appeal to international investors and/or offering opportunities for joint venturing
  • Socially and enviornmentally beneficial by meeting community needs or standards.

Outdoor Structures Australia has been granted membership into the Australian Technology Showcase for its innovative Deckwood, LifePlus® Decking and Bollards products.
